On these pages you can find information on how to vote in the election to the Swedish Riksdag, the municipal council and regional council 2026. Election day is September 2026. You can also vote in advance from 26 August up to election day.

Who can vote?

To be able to vote in Sweden, you must be at least 18 years old and be entitled to vote on election day, 13 September 2026. There are also specific rules for each election.

Your right to vote is based on the information registered in the Swedish Tax Agency’s population register 30 days before election day.

When and where can I vote?

From 26 August, you can vote in advance at an early voting location in Täby or in another municipality in Sweden. On election day, 13 September, you can vote at the polling station assigned to you according to your voting card, or at Täby Municipal building (Täby kommunhus).

Vote on Election Day

On Election Day, 13 September, you can vote at your assigned voting location between 8.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. The address and other information about your voting location are stated on your voting card.

You can also vote in advance at election day.

Bring a valid form of identification to show who you are. For example, you can use an ID card, driving licence or passport. You can also have someone confirm your identity.

Voting card

By 26 August at the latest, everyone who is entitled to vote in Sweden will receive a voting card for the general elections from the Swedish Election Authority. The voting card shows which elections you are entitled to vote in and which voting location you can vote at on election day.

If you have a digital mailbox, your voting card will be sent there. Otherwise, you will receive it by post.

You do not need to show your voting card to be able to vote.

Assistance with voting

Polling staff can assist you at all polling stations and early voting locations if you need help.

If you can’t get to a voting location due to illness or disability, or for some other reason, you can get further help with voting:

• Vote by messenger. The messenger could be a relative, for example. You also need a witness and special voting materials.
  
  Please order the materials from the Swedish Election Authority or collect it at early voting locations, polling stations and at the reception desk at Täby Municipal.

• Vote by mobile polling staff. Täby municipality can send two polling staff members to your home in Täby to collect your vote from you. Please call Täby Municipality’s contact centre to book an appointment.

Voting from abroad

If you are abroad during the election period, you can vote by post or vote in advance at Swedish embassies and consulates.
